Brands Which Stopped Advertising On Facebook!

After reports of Cambridge Analytica using Facebook’s user information of nearly 50 million users came to light, people across different social media platforms have started urging the public to #DeleteFacebook or #BoycottFacebook in response.

Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk deleted the Facebook pages for Tesla and SpaceX last week after being challenged to do so by some of his followers. He apparently did not know that any such Facebook pages of his companies existed. He jokingly pondered “What’s Facebook” (Embed Tweet) in response to a tweet hashtagged #DeleteFacebook. He called the official page for Tesla “lame anyway”.

Mozilla, the makers of the popular Firefox web browser, said it will stop advertising on Facebook. They took an independent look at Facebook’s privacy settings and found the settings “leave access open to a lot of data – particularly with respect to settings for third-party apps”.

Adding to the bandwagon, US auto parts retailer Pep Boys said, it is suspending all Facebook adverts following the scandal. They are concerned about the issues surrounding Facebook and have decided to suspend all media on the platform until the facts are out and corrective actions have been taken.

Germany’s second-largest bank, Commerzbank said, they are suspending adverts on Facebook until further notice. They said that brand safety and data security are very important to them.

Playboy is the latest company to put a stop to its relationship with Facebook. Playboy chief creative officer Cooper Hefner — son of the late Hugh Hefner, the mag’s famed founder — said, “We are stepping away from Facebook.” It has deactivated the Playboy accounts that Playboy Enterprises manages directly affecting some 25 million fans. It’s worth noting that Playboy, SpaceX, and Tesla are, however, still active on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook; a fact that many Facebook advertisers seem happy to ignore.
